It is a table condiment, often sprinkled over a variety of foods to add flavor and a touch of saltiness. Gomasio ('goma' is the Japanese word for 'sesame' and 'sio' is the Japanese word for 'salt') is a mix of sesame seeds and unrefined sea salt.

Gomasio (vegan) instructions

  1. Torréfier les graines de sésame, puis les mixer grossièrement avec le sel..
  2. Mettre dans un bocal. Se conserve des mois à température ambiante.

The unrefined sesame seeds are slightly roasted separately and then ground together with the seasalt. Each small grain of salt is thus covered with the oil of the sesame seeds. Since I got back into macrobiotics, I discovered gomasio (or gomashio), the macrobiotic sesame salt George Ohsawa was talking about in his book, Zen Macrobiotics. It is truly an amazing condiment! Gomasio is really easy to make, as it contains only whole sesame seeds and natural salt.
